SHIFT: Strategic, High‑Impact Framework for Teaching – AUC SCE Online Edition
How can we move beyond ‘surviving’ online classes to teaching English in ways that are engaging, manageable and genuinely impactful for learners?
In this four‑Friday professional development track, Dr Maged Zakher will introduce SHIFT (Strategic, High‑Impact Framework for Teaching) – a practical, research‑informed approach designed specifically for English language instructors teaching online and in blended modes. Through highly interactive sessions, participants will:
- SHIFT online learning by challenging common myths and exploring small, evidence‑based ‘micromoves’ that make learning more durable and meaningful.
- SHIFT online tasks and feedback by designing everyday online activities and feedback practices that work alongside SCE’s existing standardised assessments and rubrics.
- SHIFT online engagement by experimenting with simple ways to build rapport, encourage participation and bring in ‘fusion’ ideas from other domains to deepen language use.
- SHIFT into practice by running a small classroom micro‑experiment, reflecting on its impact using a structured framework, and preparing for the optional 20‑minute demos and digital badges.
Each session will run for 1.5 hours (2:30–4:00 pm Cairo time), followed by an optional 30‑minute informal discussion with Maged (4:00–4:30 pm) for those who wish to stay. Participants who attend all four sessions and engage with the weekly challenges will receive a certificate of attendance. Those who later deliver a short demo in October and have it accepted by the panel will also receive a digital badge.
